The closure of Napier's Marineland has become a hot topic and is sure to be an election issue.
The dilapidated site closed in 2008 after its remaining dolphin, Kelly, died.
Little has been done with the site which is costing more than $500,000 a year to staff and run.
Several solutions have been
put forward to Napier City Council including a panda sanctuary, bird park, butterfly enclosure, moving the animals to the National Aquarium of New Zealand and a full marine zoo redevelopment.
Some council candidates are using Marineland as a basis for their campaign and it will surely be at the forefront of voters' minds.
