A man arrested after armed police raided a Hawke's Bay home today has been remanded in custody.

An Armed Offenders Squad was used today as police moved in to arrest a man alleged to have been involved in a serious assault at a suburban Napier property on Sunday night.

Thomas William Milligan, 44, of Napier, was charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Napier District Court on August 14.

Detective Sergeant John McCarthy said an inquiry started after a man arrived at Hawke's Bay Hospital in Hastings with critical injuries soon after midnight on Sunday.
