A talk on the use of cloth nappies is being held by the Hastings District Council as part of Cloth Nappy Week.
Waste minimisation planner Angela Atkins said nappies and sanitary items made up 15 per cent (about 3000 tonnes) of waste going to landfill.
"You don't have to use them fulltime. Even a couple each day will significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes into the landfill," Ms Atkins said.
The talk will be held at the Hastings Public Library on Tuesday at 6.30pm.
