Basil Fawlty, or John Cleese as he is sometimes known, will tread the boards at Napier's Municipal Theatre in November.
New Zealand will be the first country to see Cleese's show - John Cleese His Life, Times and Current Medical Problems.
Cleese, was the star of Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. In 1998 he won a British Academy Award for Best Actor in A Fish Called Wanda.
Asked to describe the new show, Cleese said, "it is a one-man show with several people in it, which pushes the envelope of acceptable behaviour in new and disgusting ways."
Cleese's comedic antics have also featured in cult films such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, The Life of Brian and Fierce Creatures; children's films Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone, Shrek 2 and several James Bond films.
The National tour will take in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington, Palmerston North and Invercargill as well as the one Napier show on Tuesday November 29. Tickets will go on sale on August 15.
