A man who is serving 10 years' jail for rape and other sexual offences has been sentenced in Napier District Court for more offending revealed after his last appearance.
In court on Tuesday, prison inmate Jason Eric Oliver, 40, admitted a charge of indecently assaulting a girl who was 12 and
visiting Hawke's Bay when the offence happened.
Judge Tony Adeane said the single incident, involving the intimate touching of the girl when she was staying with friends, happened about the same time as the offences for which Oliver was sentenced in 2009: one charge of rape and three each of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, and three of indecent assault.
Oliver had taken the opportunity after others in the house had gone to bed, and the girl was so frightened that nothing was revealed until she wrote a letter to her mother more than two years later.
Judge Adeane sentenced Oliver to two years and three months' jail for the assault, to be served concurrently with the existing sentence, and said that, had the offences been considered together, the outcome would have been about the same.
