Watching TV or reading a book will soon be much more comfortable for 75 Hawke's Bay families whose homes will have insulation installed.
Under the Healthy Homes project funded by the Hawke's Bay District Health Board, Contact Energy, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority and managed by EnergySmart, 75 homes around the Bay will have their homes insulated by the end of next month. EnergySmart's project manager, Emma Walker, said the project had been set up to improve family health and save them money. "Occupants of these insulated households will benefit from improved health as well as the financial savings as a result of having a warmer, drier and more energy efficient home," Ms Walker said.
She said when a house had better insulation, asthma and other respiratory conditions were less prevalent. The Healthy Homes installations are valued about $2000 each. Recipients would be referred to the project co-ordinators by local social services.
