"The Milky Bars are on me!" chimed 10-year-old Hayden Luke, from Havelock North, in 1990.
The cheeky-faced student, from Lucknow School, was hand-picked from 300 wannabe youngsters who auditioned for the role of Nestle's Milky Bar Kid commercial.
Twenty years on, Nestle is searching the country for the next boot-scootin', chocolate-lovin' hero to front a new Milky Bar television advertisement.
Auditions opened yesterday for kids aged between 7 and 10. Previous Milky Bar Kids have all been boys sporting spectacles under a mane of blond hair. But judge and casting director Suzanne McAleer said the next Milky Bar Kid for the 2011 advertisement could break with the 51-year-old tradition.
"There's no preconceived idea of what the next Milky Bar kid is going to look like," she said.
"We're just looking for a vibrant, engaging child with star quality."
In 1989, Hayden was given 72 Milky Bars after winning the role but his mother rationed them.
The then-child star said: "I don't want to get fat - if you eat too much you get pimples."
Hopeful kids have until September 19 to enter.
