"My wife [Janine] is still very upset about it all," Daniel's dad Roger said.
Before Jamie's death he was living with his best friend, and everything seemed okay, Daniel said.

"No one saw it coming. We had seen him three days beforehand and he was laughing, eating, everything was normal.
"He took the rubbish bins out, it was very normal."
That was to be the last time the family saw him.
"He had the kindest heart and soul, he was the eldest.
Following his brother's death Daniel has decided to enter the Triple Peaks Challenge on March 7. He will complete a 55km trail run which traverses Mt Erin, Mt Kahuranaki and Te Mata Peak and fundraise for Lifeline Aotearoa.
"Jamie and I ran the Peak Trailblazer last year."
His parents will be attending the event as his support team on March 7.
"We are very supportive of what he's trying to do," they said.
To prepare for the event he intends to run 20 to 30km every week and is hoping to raise $5500 for the NGO.
"That comes to be about $100 per kilometre that I run, which would in turn mean it could help 55 people who need it and prevent the loss that we feel.
"We can't help Jamie anymore but we can help someone else and that is what I am aiming to do.
"I want to people to know that it is better to talk about your suffering that never being able to talk to you again."
He is fundraising through everydayhero and by Sunday the page had raised $1,356.29.
