ABBA fans take note - Mamma Mia is nearly here.

It has been many years since the heyday of 70s rock group Donna & the Dynamos have been together and Donna (Robyn O'Hagan), Tanya (Kelly Davis) and Rosie (Sharon Devereux) are re-united on the idyllic Greek island of Kalokairi, Donna's home, to celebrate the wedding of Donna's daughter Sophie (Laura Jeffares).

Donna doesn't know Sophie has invited three of her mother's old boyfriends along, hoping to find out which one is her father.

Wendy Revell (Hairspray, Chicago, Dusty) is directing the Napier Operatic Society show and her 36-strong cast have been rehearsing since May.

Motivation is high as audiences know both ABBA's music and the show so well, so every word, note and move must be "just perfect", says Revell.

"The role of Donna is demanding vocally, physically and emotionally. The story revolves around this character as she reveals her past, present and future aspirations.

"It is an exciting role, filled with fun and vitality."

It is presented by the same crew which has brought West End hit musicals such as Cats and last year's Phantom of the Opera to Hawke's Bay.
