A Hawke's Bay Today request for new designs for the national flag started Patricia Roberts thinking.
The Hastings woman has just launched a website, which includes her own flag design and discusses the pros and cons of changing the flag.
Mrs Roberts said she had designed a couple of flag designs and
sent them to NZFlag.com, the site promoting a change of the flag, but heard nothing back.
"I started thinking that there were other flag designs out there that you didn't see.
"One of my kids said you could start up a web site yourself, so I did.
"I want to get people thinking about it being a real New Zealand design," said Mrs Roberts.
She does not want the old flag to disappear entirely and said she still thought it should be kept for occasions such as Anzac Day and Waitangi Day because it was important for people specially those of the older generation.
"I want to make people feel better about changing the flag.
A lot of people are concerned that they will come up with a flag that they don't like," she said.
The website, which is at www.nzflagsolutions.coolnz.net, goes into the debate on the flag on why a new flag is needed and when the flag change should be made.
"My husband was lukewarm, but after reading what I had done he has been very supportive," she said.
Mrs Roberts said she did not want to push her design on anyone.
She admits her own design has probably got too many things on it. "But I can't think what I could take off it.
"I had it sitting on my desk for a while and I kept thinking 'I like this,"' she said.
