Bay accommodation is filling up this month as local sporting events, weddings and Kiwis' love of camping leave few "No Vacancy" signs unturned.
Baywide, camping grounds are at full capacity with reports of numbers up from the same time last year.
Arataki Motel and Holiday Park owner Jack Leslie said business had
been bustling at the Havelock North camp since mid-December.
"We've had a full motor camp since before Christmas and the motel has had only one night with one unit free, which is definitely up since last year," he said.
The camp was booked out this weekend due to the Colgate Games and Riverbend Cricket Camp, and would remain so until the end of the month.
In Napier, Kennedy Park Top 10 Resort general manager David Aslallo said his camp was full this month, too, but for different reasons.
"It's full at the moment - our customers return almost every year with their families and children. We don't see much impact of the games over here, though, our guests are mainly just return customers."
Holiday Accommodation Parks Association chief executive Fergus Brown said holiday parks were an increasingly popular destination this summer, reflecting a growing confidence in the economy.
Moteliers, on the other hand, reported a mixed bag, saying Napier drew the short straw with the 2011 North Island Colgate Games and Riverbend Cricket Camp being held in Hastings.
The games were tipped to draw 4500 people, and the camp had a record-breaking 103 teams registered throughout January.
Hastings Motel Association president and owner of the Comfort Inn Paul Cropper said his motel was full because of the events, but Napier Motel Association president and owner of Ballina Motel Tim Stephens said Napier was a different story.
"It's been so bloody quiet. Hastings is doing well with the Colgate Games but we are down on the last couple of years."
Hastings Colgate Games organising committee secretary Dianne Keip said some families had trouble finding accommodation due to the influx.
"I had some families ringing me to see if I could help find them some, because everywhere they tried was booked."
Stories were similar on the outskirts of the cities, with special events taking beds in Clive. Clive Motel owner Jeff Allison, said wedding season had boosted his numbers this year. "We've got a wedding this weekend which pushed our numbers up over the last few days, but generally it's been the same as last year."
