Hawke's Bay pair's alpacas to feature on TV

The Country Calendar team has come up with a local focus this week.
Hawke's Bay couple Pete and Tessa McKay used to be in the fields (excuse the pun) of horticulture and viticulture.
But then they went into a new field (excuse the pun again) altogether. They bought a 235ha property out Maraekakaho way and began farming alpacas.
Yep, those crazy-looking animals from South America: They kind of look like what a seven-year-old would come up with if asked to draw a horse.
The McKays also run a mill which processes alpaca fibre sent from other such farms nationwide.
Apparently, alpaca meat is not too bad - similar to lamb and venison.
