A proposal to reduce staffing levels at Waipawa Kindergarten has parents and friends of the kindergarten concerned enough to hold a public meeting at the kindergarten tonight.
The Waipawa Kindergarten is part of the Heretaunga Kindergarten Association, which has 16 centres in Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere, Waipawa and Waipukurau.
Proposals for consultation have been sent to all 16 kindergartens to get feedback, and were developed to ensure the kindergartens remained sustainable, said Heretaunga Kindergarten Association general manager Fiona Mason.
At Waipawa Kindergarten, which was licensed for up to 40 children and currently had one head teacher and four full-time teachers, the proposal was to reduce teacher staffing to one head teacher, two full-time teachers and two part-time teachers (working 27 hours a week each).
The proposal document said the association believed the kindergarten was potentially over-staffed.
