High temperatures and fantastic summer weather has meant full-house signs at council-owned camping grounds throughout Tararua.
In Dannevirke, 918 people used the council-owned camping ground in December and two new cabins had been proving popular with campers, manager Kim Spooner said.
"Of course, with the hot weather there have beena lot of people tenting, but when the rain comes everybody will want a cabin," she said.
And January had also been very busy.
"Last weekend was epic," Kim said. "With events such as the Wheels with Attitude, the gyrocopters and the Woodville motocross bringing a lot of visitors to the camping ground."
In Eketahuna, visitor numbers rose to 673 in December, manager Loreen Cunningham said.
"It's been a real pleasure to welcome visitors to some great Eketahuna weather."
And this year there were no queues for the camping ground loos, or showers, despite the high visitor numbers.
The Tararua District Council had added a new ablution block and Loreen said visitors were impressed with the great facilities.
