Napier's long-running Art Deco attire shop, Decorum, is closing its doors today.

However, the range of hats and fascinators it creates will still be available.

Manager Linda Malone said the shop, at the top of Tennyson St, was closing as the lease had ended.

"We will not be trading through the winter Art Deco events so cannot assist with costume hire," she said.

But the locally made fashion range made for the business would continue to be available through Hunt & Seek in Havelock North, Cora Leigh Fashions in Hastings and Charisma Bridal Salon in Taradale.

The Decorum line would also continue with the highly successful Vintage Bazaar sales in Wellington on July 6 and 7.

The shop originally started midway down Tennyson St, on a smaller scale, and grew into the building at the corner of Herschell St that will, from September, become the new home of the Art Deco Trust.

Ms Malone said the shop's signature silent staff member, Daphne (who, from her door-front seat, greeted customers) would shortly be leaving "for a grand tour of Europe on the next cruise ship to call".

"We would like to thank our customers for their very generous support through the nine years we have been trading and with their assistance with adventures in the recent past - like the Deco Dollars For Christchurch Variety Show, the Billy Bunter Bike Race, the vintage camera rally and the City of Napier Cadet Unit 10th anniversary celebrations."
