Baby Sharnah-Leigh will have a good story to tell about how she arrived in this world. It's one that involved her mum pushing on the side of the road and luckily had a happy ending. Her mum Kiri Nicholson went into labour on Sunday night so, with partner Corey Stephens, startedthe drive from their hometown Dannevirke to Palmerston North Hospital. Having had complications with her first child, Ms Nicholson needed to have the specialist treatment in Palmerston North should it happen again. However, it was almost 2am and they had just made it out of the Manawatu Gorge when she knew she couldn't hold on any longer. "I got out of the car and I could feel the baby's head coming," Ms Nicholson said. "I was freaking out because we didn't have any professionals around." Mr Stevens was talked through the delivery by ambulance staff over the phone. "When she was born he grabbed her and put her on me and a blanket on us," Ms Nicholson said. An ambulance soon arrived to take them to hospital. Baby Sharna-Leigh, Ms Nicholson's third child, was perfectly healthy so they were discharged at 9am.
