Peter Wedde and Barbara Ferguson assess the value of a pair of paintings at the Dannevirke Antiques Roadshow held in 2010. Both will be attending the upcoming Antiques Roadshow in Waipukurau.

Fans of the television programme Antiques Roadshow will have a chance to experience it for themselves in August when St Mary's Church in Waipukurau presents its own antiques roadshow event.

Organisers have secured the services of independent valuer Hamish Walsh and dealer Peter Wedde for the occasion, a fundraiser for the church.

Television audiences may remember the pair from the popular New Zealand programme Auction House in which they hosted roadshows and valued private collections.

A former Dunbar Sloane auctioneer turned independent valuer, Mr Walsh has spent the past 15 years directly involved in the upper echelons of the antique, art, deco and artefact trade and owned his own antique shop for 10 years.

Mr Wedde describes himself as a totally obsessed, energetic dealer with more than 30 years in the trade, ranging from porter at Christies to stallholder on the Portobello Rd in London to auction room proprietor. He now trades from his shop in Wellington, and is very interested in New Zealand antiques and folk art.

Helping out on the day will be Barbara Ferguson, who used to own Colonial Antiques in Dannevirke, and has teamed up with Mr Wedde at past roadshows.

So, if you have an unusual object you would like to find out more about, or want an item valued, Saturday, August 15 will be your chance. The event will be held at St Mary's Church Hall on St Mary's Road, Waipukurau, starting at 9.30am. Admission is $10 for onlookers and people with items.

The cost per item put forward for valuation is $5.
