The dogs loved it and the humans loved it, so it looks like bike joring could be happening again in the Bay sometime soon. Steve Dillon, of Hastings, was one of 32 competitors to take part in Sunday's sled-dog racing event on the Eskdale mountain bike track, which included bike joringfor the first time in the North Island. Event organiser Steve Bell said the sport where the dogs pulled their owners following on bikes was popular in Europe and had been tried in the South Island. "We are looking at different options to try and encourage people to get involved in the sport," he said. But it could be a while before another bike joring event is held as it's strictly a winter sport for the dogs' wellbeing. "It probably won't be until the end of summer now," Mr Bell said. The winner of the men's race was Roy Bennison, of Napier, with a time of 6m 58s over the 3.5km course. The women's winner was Marion Pope, from Palmerston North, with a time of 8m 56s.
