Pupils at Clive School will be able to pursue learning through exploring their own environment, after the school's "Clive Explorers" programme was given an $80,000 grant.
The programme was one of 25 proposals that received new funding this week from the government's Teacher Led Innovation Fund (TLIF) initiative.
The Ministry of Education's early learning and student achievement deputy secretary Ellen MacGregor-Reid said the (TLIF) initiative was making a difference to how teachers worked both with each other and with their students by enabling the exploration of new teaching practices and methods.
"Evidence tells us that enabling teachers to collaborate and try new things enhances teaching practices with the aim of improving student outcomes.
"The school's 'Clive Explorers' proposal will involve new entrant and year 1 children as explorers in their own environment. They will choose from a variety of open-ended activities that do not have a prescribed outcome.
