After a host of teams were excluded from sporting competitions this year, Hawke's Bay's regional indoor sports centre needs a $10 million extension to cope with the huge demand for indoor sport.
"The Hawke's Bay region is in real need of more indoor court space for community sport," Pettigrew-Green Arena Regional Indoor Sports and Events Centre Trust chairman Craig Waterhouse told Hasting District Council this week.
"The current infrastructure is not able to cope with the demands by the sports, and is becoming detrimental to the growth of current and new sports.
"The proposed extension will be a six-court multi-sport and use facility adjoining the current facility, providing playing surfaces for all levels of basketball, futsal, netball, volleyball and badminton."
It would also see the centre cater for national tournaments, trade shows and expos.
