Children in Napier will be enjoying reduced prices at the city's entertainment venues, following the city council's support of Children's Day.
Napier City Council community services director Antoinette Campbell urged people to come and celebrate Children's Day on Sunday, March 4.
"Many other countries recognise Children's Day and it has been held in New Zealand since 2000.
"It is an opportunity for families and communities to support and nurture children, with communities and organisations nationwide hosting activities and events designed to bring families together and show how important children are in our community.
"It's important that children see that they are valued members of society, just as adults are. It's wonderful to be able to offer this opportunity to families in Hawke's Bay, I hope plenty of people can join us in marking this special day."
Special offers will be in place at a range of council facilities to mark the occasion.
At Bay Skate, entry for two children can be obtained for the price of one (children aged between 4 and 17), while entry fees at Napier Aquatic Centre, will be reduced to just $2 for entry and slide per child (normal price is $8.50 per child).
Napier Libraries, will also host a free, special story time at 10.30am at both Taradale and Napier Libraries.
MTG Hawke's Bay's He Manu Tioriori exhibition, will be free for all. The National Aquarium of New Zealand, will also be free entry for one child when accompanied by one paying adult (children aged between 3 and 14), as will the Par2MiniGolf, which will be free entry for one child when accompanied by one paying adult.
In New Zealand, Children's Day is typically celebrated on the first Sunday in March. It honours children as a taonga (Maori for treasure), and is a day families can relax and share in activities to honour their children.
