The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter team has received a donation from the Red & Blue ball that was held in July this year.
The event - a celebration of the essential emergency services within Palmerston North and the Manawatu, was packed with entertainment and featured a charity auction. Held at the Awapuni Racing Centre, the ball raised just over $10,000, with the proceeds going directly to the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter is an essential emergency service for the Manawatu - Whanganui regions. In a life or death situation, it is the speed and agility of the rescue helicopter that can make all the difference. This essential service can reduce disability and improve the chance of survival - the sooner treatment begins the greater chance of patient recovery, says rescue helicopter pilot Lance Burns.
Community generosity is essential to operating the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter. Funds generated through the support of communities, sponsors and partners cover half of the annual expenses required to operate the rescue helicopter; without this support the service would not exist.
The next Red & Blue Ball will be held on May 12, 2018.
