One of Hawke's Bay's popular multisport events has had to re-open registration after thousands of people attempting to sign up for the event crashed the website.
The IronMaori website crashed on Saturday as thousands of people tried to sign up for two triathalon events.
Online registration for the quarter Ironman, which had 550 individual spots and 550 team spots available, and the half Ironman, which had 800 individual spots and 600 team spots, was closed after the website handling registration was unable to handle the traffic.
Now in its sixth year, IronMaori aims to introduce Maori to physical exercise and activity while providing a family and group atmosphere.
The event isn't solely for Maori with people of all ethnicities, ages and fitness levels encouraged to participate. Since its inception in Hawke's Bay in 2009, IronMaori has increased in popularity each year and even spread to Australia's Gold Coast, where a triathlon event will be held on July 5.
