Napier entrepreneur Dave Halstead has had his new Napier beachfront coffee caravan operating only a few days, but there are already a couple of myths to dispel.
On one hand, the renovated US-built, 1976 Airstream on Marine Parade is not a "pie cart". as one Hawke's Bay Today text messager called it.
On the other, in contrast to what another messager said, city councillor and Marine Parade Development sub-committee chairman Mark Herbert hasn't got anything to do with it - and that's official.
Mr Halstead, a business partner of Mr Herbert in the running of the East Pier bar and brasserie on Hardinge Rd, Ahuriri, said he saw a council advertisement on August 21 seeking tenders for the service adjacent to the Junior Bike Track.
The advertisement specifically sought an Airstream caravan and Mr Halstead, sourcing an unwanted 31ft model in Christchurch, submitted a tender, one of four received by the due date last month.
