West Coast Police have laid charges in relation to a fatal truck crash on the Otira Highway in the South Island on 22 June last year in which a Hawke's Bay man died.
Pikiora Lewis Jones, 34, of Napier, was killed when the truck he was driving plunged 24 metres off the road to the edge of the Otira River.
Mr Jones was driving between Arthur's Pass and the West Coast on a steep, narrow stretch of the highway.
Police said in a statement the two men have been jointly charged with carelessly operating a vehicle causing death. They will appear in the Greymouth District Court on 14 February.
