Hawke's Bay residents are being encouraged to use an award-winning police initiative to help recover stolen goods.
The SNAP website, which won a telecommunications innovation award last week, allows users to record the serial numbers of their assets, allowing for quick identification if stolen.
Tukituki MP Craig Foss is encouraging Hawke's Bay residents to take advantage of the service.
"This is a website that will help catch offenders," he said. "Anything that we can do to apprehend offenders is a step forward in the right direction."
Mr Foss said the website was easy and free to use, and the details could be passed on to police or insurance companies if items were lost or stolen.
The website, developed by police and IT partner Datacom, was a winner at the Telecommunication Users Association of New Zealand Innovation Awards last week, picking up the Local and Central Government Services Award.
