One youth has been arrested and charged following an alleged aggravated robbery at a Napier petrol station.

The incident happened about 1.15am yesterday at the Z petrol station on the corner of Tennyson and Station sts, just outside Napier’s CBD.

Cash was stolen from the tills and staff were allegedly threatened.

Police alleged four males had entered the petrol station.

Police appealed for witnesses and information following the incident, in which the front door was damaged.

Police last night located the vehicle of interest and arrested a youth in relation to the robbery.

He was due to appear in Hastings Youth Court today.

“Inquiries into the incident remain ongoing and police are speaking with a second person in relation to the incident,” police said.

Following the incident, a Z Energy spokesman said the immediate priority had been to support the team and ensure they had the care and assistance needed.

The Z petrol station has a night pay window, and it is understood the front doors are locked at night, with overnight customers asked to use the night pay window (or use the self-service machines at the pump).
