A 10-year-old Hawke's Bay boy caught shoplifting just last week was apprehended for committing more of the same crime yesterday.
The Dannevirke boy, who only recently turned 10, was caught stealing chocolate bars and fizzy drinks with an 11-year-old male accomplice at Dannevirke New World about 4.20pm yesterday, said WaipukurauPolice Constable Matt Brooking.
Mr Brooking said the duo had made five trips to the Barraud St store from 12.45pm, concealing the goods in their clothing before exiting via closed checkouts.
"Staff grew suspicious of them coming in and out, and reviewed their security footage which confirmed those suspicions," he said.
The boy was last week referred to Youth Aid after stealing more than $200 worth of clothing from The Warehouse.
Mr Brooking said he was referred to the service for dealing with youth offenders again, and that his young age and recidivist behaviour was shocking.
"Management were taken aback by his complacency and lack of remorse and how he readily skited about getting away with a lot of other offending at other places as well."
