Victory meant a 17th centre title for Clapperton, who has been a huge asset to the local indoor bowling community for decades. She won her first centre event in 1976.
For Treloar, the centre secretary, this was her 16th centre title and sixth women’s pairs title.
In the men’s event, Nathan Trowell and Dylan Foster defeated Matthew Foster and David Lynn 8-5 in the final.
The final was close but Trowell continued his good form to edge out the opposition on many occasions.
Trowell and Dylan Foster beat Jaye Casey and Doc Tipene in one semifinal, while the Foster/Lynn combination defeated Warren Madoc and Lenard Keelan in the other semifinal.
This earned Trowell his first men’s pairs title, and 21st title overall.
It was Dylan Foster’s seventh centre title.
Poverty Bay-East Coast bowlers travelled to Napier over Easter weekend to play in the annual Hawke’s Bay event.
Again, 16-year-old Nathan Trowell turned heads, playing superb bowls in the open singles to reach the semifinals, where he narrowly missed out on a finals berth.
A measure on a deciding end was the difference between victory and defeat against eventual winner David Archer, of Waikato.
In the last eight, Trowell had beaten Hutt Valley’s Mark Jacombs 12-2.
His last-16 match was against his dad, Malcolm Trowell. Father and son went bowl for bowl. It was 6-6 going into the last end, where Nathan gained the winning point.
Other Poverty Bay-East Coast bowlers to qualify were Keith Setter, who reached the last 16, and Dylan Foster and David Lynn, who reached the last 32.
In the Easter Pairs, Dylan Foster and his dad, Mike Foster, played great bowls to reach the last eight (teams), as did Nathan Trowell who teamed up with Tauranga’s Paul Smith. Malcolm Trowell and Matthew Foster reached the last 16, and David Lynn reached the last 26 with Auckland’s Rodney Mills.
In the triples, Matthew Foster, Nathan Trowell and Tauranga’s Paul Smith reached the last eight. In the fours, Keith Setter reached the semifinals with Waikato’s Annelies Baker, Richard Caddy and Wayne Baker. MalcolmTrowell, Matthew Foster, Nathan Trowell and Paul Smith reached the last 12.
