“There’s some really strong women. They’re realising their potential, what their bodies have been through and what they can still do.
“To see these women who weren’t able to do a chin-up and now they’re winning . . . a lot of the girls had happy tears.”
It was Caz Cundall-Curry’s first time competing as an individual at a CrossFit event, and she said it didn’t seem real winning the SC 35+ category.
She entered the sport to stay healthy while raising a young family but was soon inspired by the “incredible athletes” at the gym to push her limits in competition.
It was inspiring to see such a big group of women all in the same position and pushing each other to do their best, she said.
“We’ve all got a family, and it was just amazing to be a part of it.”
CrossFit 4010 fitness coach Darryn White said the event had a great kaupapa, empowering women to be strong and active after childbirth.
“Everyone put in 100 percent effort, and the results show that.”
He said the results wouldn’t have been possible without the support from everyone who travelled with the team and all the dads back at home.
The gym had been punching above its weight class in competitive CrossFit due to the culture they’d implemented, he said.
“We’ve had a good run over the past few years. It comes down to our coaches and the atmosphere we’ve created, and it’s showing.”
