Robin was no Phil Mickelson but he left an indelible mark on the golfing fraternity over his time at Poverty Bay with his quick wit and charm.
The former co-owner of Foster and Tyler garage in Mangapapa, Robin was always happy to point out the supposed superiority of Holden over Ford and he enjoyed a bit of success on the course, including more than one division win at the Gisborne East Coast veterans’ open.
And not many, if any, have holed out with a 3-wood for eagle-2 on the 10th (August, 2006).
Robin will be missed.
