A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.
The aerial mapping project to understand more about the region's groundwater has started.
A helicopter will be used to map aquifers in Hicks Bay, Te Araroa, Waiapu, Tolaga Bay and across the Poverty Bay Flats for the next six weeks, subject to weather.
“If you see a helicopter flying towing
a cable with the mapping device attached then that's the team mapping the aquifers,” a Gisborne District Council spokesperson said.
The project is a joint undertaking between Aqua Intel Aotearoa and a partnership between GNS Science and Kanoa, funded by the Provincial Growth Fund with some contributions from GDC.
“If you have an event you'd like us to avoid such as a stock sale, wedding or hui we'll do our best to plan around it,” the spokesperson said.
