A YOUNG man was flown to Waikato Hospital yesterday after he was injured while cutting up the root ball of a fallen tree at Knapdale Eco Lodge in Snowsill Road off back Ormond Road.
Fire and Emergency NZ and St John ambulance were called to the property at 9.15am.
“The
18-year-old was trapped when the fallen tree shifted on the slope it was on, and he became trapped under the root ball,” said Station Officer Chris Grimson. “He had been freed by other work colleagues by the time we got there.”
The injured teenager was stabilised at the scene by St John staff, then carried on a stretcher down the hill by firefighters to a waiting ambulance.
“He suffered injuries to his legs, abdomen and chest.”
