A driver suffered moderate injuries when his log truck jackknifed on a bend on State Highway 2 10 kilometres south of Wairoa at around 1pm yesterday.
Firefighters, St John ambulance and Wairoa police responded.
“The driver, who appeared to be in his 30s, was a bit shaken up when we
arrived, and was still sitting in the cab,” a senior firefighter said.
“He was able to get out on his own and was taken to Wairoa Hospital for a check-up.”
Some of the logs from the rig directly behind the driver's cab spilled on to the side of the road. The highway was down to one lane until the scene was cleared later in the afternoon.
