Who cares? Not city council staff

Most Tauranga City Council staff are less than contented in their jobs, with 62 per cent ranking themselves as "ambivalent" towards their employment.
Council's human resources manager Adrienne Stormont said ambivalence could go one way or the other - staff could either become disengaged from their jobs or they could join the 30 per cent who were engaged in what they were doing.
She told councillors that 6 per cent of staff were disengaged from their jobs. This was quite damaging because they had no commitment one way or the other, and felt no compelling reason to stay with their employer.
Ms Stormont said disengagement was caused by employees not connecting with the workplace, not sharing the organisation's vision and purpose and generally being dissatisfied.
