David Hasselhoff's fleeting visit to the Bay was a blast from the past for Sarah McBeath.
It was the second time the Mount Maunganui woman had got up close and personal with the Hoff.
In 1993, Ms McBeath won a TV2 competition to go to California to be an extra on the
Baywatch set. The former Miss Mount Maunganui, who was 18 at the time, was chosen to go after a video was made of her running down the beach in a bikini.
She had fond memories of the Hoff and said he was unpretentious, friendly and fascinated with New Zealand.
"He spent the day with us and talked to us heaps, and asked us about New Zealand. He was really friendly and nice."
Fast forward 17 years, and Ms McBeath is a lawyer and a mother of two young daughters.
She was keen to meet the Hoff again. "It was amazing I was chosen to go over and film on his show and now, 17 years later, of all the places he could go in the world he comes to the place I live at."
The Bay of Plenty Times facilitated a reunion between Ms McBeath, 37, and Hasselhoff. The actor said he recalled her face and enjoyed shooting the breeze with her. The two bonded over the fact that they both have two daughters.
Ms McBeath was glad she got to meet the Hoff again.
"That was cool. It was really neat, really fantastic - he was as I remembered him all these years."
