Pool repairs have been completed but not tested and Te Puke people are invited to help out in a survey on the future of Te Puke Aquatic Centre.
Te Puke High School executive officer Ross Merrett says contractors are waiting on concrete and sealants to cure before painting the affected areas.
"We
need a week of fine weather to ensure this happens, at which time the pool will be refilled and retested for leaks," says Ross. "At this stage we're hopeful the pool will reopen in October."
Ross says as the pool is nearing its use-by date, Te Puke High School is working closely with the Western Bay of Plenty District Council to examine the feasibility of providing an indoor community recreation facility and a replacement aquatic centre for Te Puke and surrounding communities.
"Key to this process is seeking community feedback and we've contracted Visitor Solutions to assist with this process," says Ross.
Visitor Solutions is working to arrange meetings with community organisations and groups to feed into a feasibility study.
The council's reserves and facilities manager, Peter Watson, says the results of the study will assist the high school and the council to make future decisions about meeting community need.
The study is expected to be completed by October and the community is encouraged to get involved by completing an online survey at http://vsl.TePuke-sporting-needs-survey.sgizmo.com or by contacting Visitor Solutions on 09 570-3870.
Copies of the survey will be available when completed.
