A new competition sees young entrepreneurs face the "dragons" of Tauranga's business world.
The Dragons' Den style competition designed for secondary school students gives young business hopefuls the chance to make themselves known in business circles. The Young Innovator Awards 2010 allow students the opportunity to pitch their invention to five
Bay business people.
Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty economic development agency Priority One has introduced the Innovator Awards, to help students gain understanding of successful business practice and think intelligently about design by interlinking innovation and sustainability in the design of a product or service.
The five judges will look for creativity, sustainability, communication and research.
The awards, created through the INSTEP Programme, is a chance for young people to be recognised for their creativity and ability to solve problems. Students must show how they can make a business more sustainable and efficient in the future.
Teams or individuals from Aquinas College, Bethlehem College, Katikati College, Tauranga Boys' College, Tauranga Girls' College, Mount Maunganui College, Otumoetai College or Te Puke High School will battle it out for the $1000 prize and the opportunity to be mentored by a local business person.
The awards will be presented at the Western Bay at Work launch at Tauranga Yacht and Boating Club on July 19.
