Police raid rural home over firearm

Armed police made an early morning  visit to a Hairini property today,  with the intention of revoking a New Zealand Firearms Licence from one of the residents.
Inspector Karl Wright St-Clair said police arrived at the large rural property in Waimapu Pa Rd about 6.30am and  visited  one of a number of family dwellings on the property.
They revoked the man's licence and seized one firearm, which Mr Wright St-Clair said was unloaded and safely stored at the house. He said firearms licences were routinely revoked for a number of reasons, including the holder not being deemed a fit and proper person to hold the licence.
Mr Wright St-Clair said the operation ran smoothly without incident and the man was not arrested.
