Police believe missing Auckland woman Rae Portman is dead.

This afternoon, Detective Inspector Mark Gutry of the Counties Manukau Police said the police investigation into the disappearance of Rae (Bok) Portman  was now being treated as a homicide.

"The elevation to a homicide is based on information from the public  through the 0800 RaePortman and the Crimestoppers phone numbers,'' he said.

The 33-year-old Auckland woman, was reported missing on July 2 and has not been seen since the end of June.

Earlier police extended their search for Ms Portman to the Bay of Plenty, after they had recieved information that she was seen in Waihi and Tauranga in June.
