What's the most challenging aspect of your role?
Keeping my desk tidy. Learning and keeping abreast of changes in cancer care.
What's your proudest work moment?
Being involved with, and supporting, people who are going through such a challenging time in their life. It is an honour to do so. I am both humbled and inspired by the courage I witness every day.
What training/experience have you had to prepare for your role?
I have been a nurse for over 30 years and have spent a lot of time working in mental health. I know how to develop a therapeutic rapport and facilitate support groups, and I can understand and provide advice on issues related to illness such as dealing with loss, grief, uncertainty and fear.
What's the best piece of career advice you've received?
When you stop caring or worrying about your practice or about delivering the best possible service you can, then it is time to leave.
What's the most important thing your current role has taught you?
How resilient people are, and how powerful it is to have laughter, love and someone to support you.
How would you describe your work wardrobe?
Comfortable and cheerful.
