Sunday's tree planting session at the Tanners Point Pest-Free Peninsula Project site was a major success, with more than 500 of the 750 supplied trees planted on the steep hillside overlooking the harbour.
Heather Wills says she was "rapt" with the number of volunteers who arrived to help.
"We used to get a good number at our planting days, then people began getting older and not so many could manage the work. Now we have a younger population and on Sunday we had people of all ages.
"Considering the trees had to be planted in fairly tough conditions, we did really well to get over 500 planted. The weather was good, especially in the morning.
"In the afternoon after we served ice creams and drinks, it seemed to give everyone another burst of energy and we didn't get home until just before 5pm."
