Zonta Tauranga, part of an International Women's Organisation of volunteers, is raising funds towards study fees for a Bay resident in her final year of tertiary education and looking to establish herself in the workforce.
President Brooke Courtney says Zonta's role in the community is to be a voice for
women and girls. "We work locally and think globally," she says.
The Zonta Scholarship is named after Val Webster, who was a passionate advocate for young women to achieve in education.
Past recipients include Sarah Lockwood. Sarah is a University of Waikato graduate withaPhD in Philosophy, majoring in management communication. She was subsequently awarded a Fullbright Scholarship following her research on GenY.
Meanwhile fellow recipient Heidi Borchardt says, "the Zonta scholarship helped support me in my Art Studies, propelling my creative career."
