Fire investigators are today looking into the cause of a refridgerator which exploded with enough force to smash all the windows of a Gate Pa home last night.
Greerton Fire Service senior station officer Steve Wright said firefighters were called to a two-bedroom self contained unit on Scott St about 1.15am.
"A fridge has exploded. There's no fire and it appears to be a reaction of some sorts to the contents of the fridge."
"It caused a big pressure wave and it pushed all the windows and the ranch slider out of their frames," he said. "The door of the fridge was blown clean off the hinges and went straight into the oven. The contents of the fridge were all over the floor.
Mr Wright said neither he nor any of the other fire fighters at the scene had ever seen anything like it before.
