Following the closure of Hetherington House's elderly daycare service almost two months ago, the rest home has signed a contract with the Waikato District Health Board to provide a daycare facility within the rest home, in conjunction with its normal activities.
Nurse-manager Margaret Clarke says the new service is operating now."While it doesn't have its own wing or transport to and from people's homes, it's available seven days a week instead of five as previously, and the criteria for DHB funding remains the same."
The Hetherington House trust board decided "with great regret" not to renew its full daycare contract of seven years when dwindling numbers meant the service was no longer viable.
