Crash in Karangahake Gorge

The section of State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi has been closed this afternoon after a two vehicle crash in the Karangahake Gorge.
A car and truck have collided south of Paeroa, and diversions have been put in place as police and other emergency services work at the scene.
A spokesman from police communications said two people were trapped in the car.
One person had been removed from the vehicle. She has been flown to Waikato Hospital in serious condition. Emergency services were still working on removing the second person from the car.
Police will advise when the road has reopened.
