Tragedy has struck Arthur Ross' family more than most.
The 78-year-old Waihi man died this week, more than two weeks after he was hit by a car, while cycling through the small town.
"We've had a bloody tragic times with cars," brother Maurice, 82, said.
Mr Ross' wife collapsed anddied while getting into the car one evening about five years ago, his son died more than 20 years ago when his car crashed into a tree and his father died when he was run over by a car.
"I miss him very much," Maurice said. "He was great. He was a wonderful brother. He was very loving.
Maurice visited his brother in hospital a number of times including on his 78th birthday on Sunday but said it was clear some time ago he was not going to make it.
Mr Ross was born in Glasgow in 1936, four years after his brother, and the pair went on to do everything together.
"We went to the war [World War II] together, not as soldiers but as evacuees," Maurice said.
Mr Ross, his wife and Maurice later left home and made the journey to New Zealand.
"We came over here in '63 on the Castel Felice ship as an immigrant to Australia on a 10 passage. We couldn't settle there."
The trio then made the move to New Zealand where Mr Ross settled in Waihi and Maurice in Morrinsville.
Mr Ross was a keen cyclist and had recently driven to visit his brother with his bike in the back of his van.
The Waikato Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.

'He was a bit of a fixture around town'
Shane Mouat, above, of Waihi Sports and Cycles said Arthur Ross often bought his bike in for repairs and had recently bought an orange electric bike to help him get to the cemetery to visit his wife's grave, because "it was too far to pedal".
