A Papamoa McDonald's worker had his uniform and name-tag ripped after a drunk man tried to drag him through the drive-through window on Saturday.
Sergeant Mark Pakes of Papamoa Police said the drama unfolded when two drunk men aged 18 and 20 walked through the drive-through about 6.15pm on Saturday.
"They tried to place an order, and when they were advised they couldn't, they wanted to lay a complaint about the Chinese takeaway they had from another outlet, for some unknown reason," Mr Pakes said.
"When they were kindly advised that wasn't appropriate, they have hurled abuse and tried to drag one of the drive-through staff through the window."
The worker managed to break free and was unhurt, "apart from the barrage of abuse", Mr Pakes said.
When police arrived, one of the men was found to be carrying a knife. The same man also allegedly tried to break into a car.
