Beverley Adlam has had her fingers in a lot of pies over the past 40 years.
The businesswoman can claim a portfolio of business and Maori enterprises spanning the past four decades that includes negotiating a claim in New Zealand's largest geothermal development in more than 20 years.
Today her success has
been recognised by being made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours for services to business.
The 60-year-old Bethlehem resident, who has been travelling to and from Rome over the past few months, was overseas when she heard of the honour and was unavailable for comment.
But her daughter, Jackie Adlam, said her mother was more than happy to be included in the New Year Honours. She received the NZ Mobil Broadcasting Award for Best Spoken Radio Programme in 1983 and Best Factual Spoken Programme the year before.
As chairman of the Tuwharetoa Kawerau Trust she last year helped negotiate the purchase of the Kawerau geothermal assets for local iwi.
The project will provide about a third of the Eastern Bay of Plenty's electricity needs when completed in April next year.
Ms Adlam now manages her own business and management consultancy company.
She is also managing director of Onepu Geothermal Energy, director of both BOP Electricity, Trustbank BOP and NZ Forestry Corporation.
She also acts as member of Lottery BOP and Gisborne Community Development Committee.
