Three New Zealand sailors are poised for podium finishes as the Kieler Woche yachting regatta in Kiel, Germany, heads into its final race.
Mike Bullot in the Laser, Star pair Hamish Pepper and Craig Monk and Dan Slater in the Finn class are all within the top four with just
the medal race remaining.
After two days without racing due to light winds, three races were sailed overnight (NZT).
Bullot sits in second place in the 153-boat Laser fleet, headed only by Olympic champion Paul Goodison of Great Britain. The New Zealander notched up another heat win overnight, as well as a second place which moves him up the leaderboard from fourth.
Bullot has already returned a silver medal-winning performance this year at the third ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Mallorca, Spain in April.
Three races concluded the Star class qualifying series, with Pepper and Monk finishing 10th, ninth and second in last night's racing. Their overall standing in the 43-boat fleet improved from fifth up to third.
Britons Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson hold the lead in the Stars on 12 points, with Mark Mendelblatt and Mark Strube (USA) second two points astray. Pepper and Monk are a further 12 points back on 26.
Dan Slater was the big mover of the New Zealanders last night, climbing up the Finn leaderboard from 10th to fourth place.
